Clinica San Luis Obispo
The Clinic will serve underprivileged residents in of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico most impoverished communities. It will house general medicine, and specialized care such as emergencies, delivery room, operation room, intensive care, and recuperating rooms. Another unique feature are dormitories for intern doctors and nuns specializing in infirmary. The building was conceived as a series of walls of diverse regional materials representing the native origins of the diverse communities which form our present Tijuana. The project employs various focal points in order to embrace faith and destiny: a tree, a fountain, a wall, and a place of worship. An olive tree perched on a balcony reaches outward to the community as a symbol of hope. The journey thru the clinic begins as one enters the foyer and is received by a stream of water cut into a small opening in the ground which leads axially toward the internal patio. Here, the stream joins together with a reflecting pool. The interior opens up to the sky, where a wall of colorful mosaics end juxtaposed into the pool. The wall ends or starts at the baptistery, where symbolically the water which brings spiritual life begins.
